Location-based Businesses Are Leveling Up With VR

As Technology Evolves, So Must Modern Entertainment Businesses

In the early stages of video games came a location-based opportunity: arcades. Despite home entertainment being accessible to the public, businesses found that these games would draw customers into their physical location because, at least for a time, they could offer a higher-quality experience.

Even now as traditional arcades have declined, many entertainment centers will still maintain at least a handful of arcade machines. However, like all things, the location-based entertainment industry continues to move forward with customer trends, leaving the businesses that are unwilling to evolve behind.

With the latest advancements in technology, the industry has progressed from the 2D world of arcade screens and stepped into the more immersive world of virtual reality. Now, being able to turn your head and walk in the virtual world is just as seamless as in real life, only your customers can explore scenes beyond our wildest dreams.

And as earlier entertainment technology gave rise to arcades, VR has produced a brand new business opportunity: location-based VR, where companies can set up a VR arena and operate games not possible at home — hassle-free for the end user.

Virtual Reality Continues To Grow

In a recent study by Grandview Research, they found the total value of the VR market sitting at $21.83B USD in 2021. It's also “expected to expand at a compound annual growth rate of 15.0% from 2022 to 2030”. With this information, it is clear to see why location-based gaming and entertainment businesses are supporting more and more virtual reality as a way to optimize the player experience and compete. The market is growing, and those on board will grow with it.

But, some criticize VR as being an isolating experience., and that might be true for many home VR experiences. What business owners have found, however, is that there’s a ton of social fun to be had in VR — if the right experiences are offered.
